What even Holmes didn’t know

At first glance, it appears that Dr Watson is rather a wag and that he introduced novel references to other works by writers of that time into this novel. Nothing here is by chance! Some of these clues are part of the mystery, which will be revealed in a future episode of the Victoria Regina series. We will not be slavishly listing them all, but at least one small clue.

Facts from the various Sherlock Holmes Stories, whether written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, or someone else, are described in Holmes’ letter and we shall not address these any further. We will therefore be only interested in Chapter III, where a fountain of clues can be found in Fleet Street. On the left hand side, our heroes are walking past Miss Lovett’s bakery. Her meat pies are well known. We can only hope, that our heroes did not have their breakfast there. Why? If you need another clue, take a look who owns the barbershop upstairs.

Then it will be obvious why Miss Lovett’s pies are so special. Nevertheless, those who have read the Dracula comic book by Petr Kopl, will discover that there is a tragedy unfolding.

We can see a newspaper boy on the street. It is of course, young Cartwright, although it is the newspaper reports that capture our interest. The Missing Balloon Victoria is hinting at Five Weeks in a Balloon by the genius writer and futurist Jules Verne. The second report hints at The Lost World by A. C. Doyle, which we encounter in this comic book a total of four times. There is a black dog sitting on the left side of the pavement. It is none other than Mucky Pup from the famous Barks of the Day comic strips by Petr Kopl. How did he get there? We think that he is asking the same question. Either way, every attempt to call him off failed.

If you turn the page, then at the bottom left is the cunning receptionist handing keys to one of his guests. If he knew, that the guest was one of London’s most notorious murderers, he would certainly choose his words more wisely.

The moment Sherlock Holmes chases the man in the cab who is noticeably similar in looks to Sir Hugo, you may notice that lying on the table is a small box with sugar cubes. The box has the written name of J. K. Rad written on it. Enter that name into an online encyclopaedia and you will know why it is there. Although if you do not know already then you cannot be Czech. A page later, we can see a staircase. The reporter Malone is being assaulted by a bearded hulk. If we add that this is Professor Challenger, it is clear that this is our second encounter with The Lost World. On the opposite page, we can see a person with an umbrella, a talkative parrot and a large bag walking across the roof. If I have to introduce this person to you, I am not sure if you should carry on reading.
